Hi, Milo -
I had never heard of a barbed wire basket until you posted - so I Googled it! What a neat idea! There are quite a few pictues and so far, some vague directions.
The best hint I saw was about a man who built wooden forms to wrap the wire around. He also had some motors to twist the wire, but I think that sounds like a painful accident waiting to happen with rusty wire.
Since you've got some - why not experiment? Start with a tight, flat coil for the bottom, then wind slowly larger to form the body. I'd think some thin, easily twisty wire to lash it as you go would be just the thing.
I also saw a barbed wire wreath - and it looked pretty good, decorated with flowers.
Those baskets were selling for $70! You're sitting on a gold mine! ;D

Milo, CarolAnn, that is a fanastic idea. *I have all this old barbed wire that is abou 40 years old. *I have been replacing old fence and I have several miles of barbed wire... Now I know what to do. Did you see the basket on eBay that was at $129.99? *
P.S. I think I'll make me a small egg basket ......

For a unusual basket , make your form out of wood then when the basket is done , set the wood on firer to burn the form up then spay with a rust prohibitor , then spay paint. My wife wanted me to stay out of the cookie jar so she made a barbed wire cookie jar. Her hands are smaller then mine. How do you heal barbed wire cuts?
