A bit more pricey than the regular stuff but well worth the couple extra dollars in my opinion, it's the best there is!
I also recently attended one of their free baking classes, well worth the time to go if they're in your area and you get the chance, plus when I went they gave away a ton of free stuff just for coming.
Anyway I just thought I'd see if anyone else loved this brand as much as I do.

King Arthur flour is offered in bulk through our co-op catalog but unfortunately it's not organic. I have a tendency to buy and use organic flour.
But it's really that great of a flour, eh? That's always good to know. I like firsthand recommendations like this. Thanks for sharing.

They do have an organic actually. You might not find it at your co-op but if you don't mind looking somewhere like harris teeter or ordering it it's worth it.
When we went to that class they handed out raffle tickets for free stuff and we won a 5lb bag of organic whole wheat.

I have used KA a few times. I would say it is the beat I have used but some others are fine also. They have a catalog with all tpes flour and other stuff; Not cheap stuff. I have used some from Sams club, read about it as being very good and it was.

I order it on-line. They say that the flour is ground fresh before it is mailed out and I keep mine in the freezer. They do have organic. I like the white whole wheat.
BTW, they ship by the weight of the product - not S&H by cost.

I finally found a bag of white whole wheat on sale, that's good stuff. Goes great in sourdough.

With the white whole wheat be sure to use it in place of regular whole wheat, and not as a substitute for regular white Allpurpose flour. If you do you'll end up with a too thick, dried out mess.
They have some good recipies on thier website.

I'm glad you brought this up, Clouded. White whole wheat is definitely NOT white flour! :o

Yeah I had some white sourdough to make a loaf and a pizza, the pizza turned out ok since it was a thin crispy crust anyway. But the loaf was just as i described, when a recipie calls for white all purpose white whole wheat won't cut it. (and you won't be able to cut the loaf you make of it either)
I managed to salvage it into some eatable french toast though. Soaking it in milk and eggs for a few hours made it edible again. Still I mustve used like 7 ounces of syrup to eat 2 pieces :P

King Arthur sells a brand of flour called Sir Lancelot Hi- gluten flour that is made from red wheat and is 14% protein. They are getting $6.95 for three pounds.
We sell ORGANIC hi gluten flour also 14% protein made from organic hard red wheat for .60 per pound and it is ground FRESH to order. I don't see how they can justify selling theirs for such a high price.

What's the old saying... you pay for the name as much as the product?
We order our groceries from United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI) too. *They bought out Blooming Praire Co-operative Warehouse. *Back in the days of the true "co-operatives", you could buy the basics (in bulk) for very cheap... and it was good good food. *Course, Blooming Prairie was a not-for-profit organization. *I remember my babies were just little when me and my friends were ordering from them. *Then, the co-operatives were going under and Blooming Prairie did the only thing they could do... sold out to the for-profit big company "United Natural Foods".
The prices went up, many many of the bulk items disappeared, and now they offer a lot of the little packages of food that cost an arm and a leg. *Sad, really.
North Farm Co-operative went bankrupt, was purchased by 7 of their employees who named it "Natural Farms" then. *But they've since sold it and not it's gone too. *The old-time co-operatives from years ago are just no longer. *And I miss them very much.
I've sent you an email, Flourgirl. *Hope to learn more about your flours and try them out. *Thanks for giving us the heads up about this. *Good organic flour at that price is surely hard to find. *Now it's just going to be waiting to see what the shipping costs will be. *Wish I lived closer so I could just pick it up myself.
Take care.
