Anyone build any of these?
Looks like it would be fun to try.

I have not, but know some guys who have. Have you gone to www.backyardmetalcasting.com? there are some folks there who have and a thread of discussion about this about a week ago. I am a machinist and like buying used equipment. Alot of old machining equipment is out there since being replaced by CNC machines. Alot of old machinist took good care of this equipment and it being auctioned for scrap prices or a bit higher. However I do love building things from scrach. I built my fourndy from scratch.

HI Steve,
Same as machinemaker...I know folks who've built the Gingery stuff.
I'd look to http://stephenchastain.com/ for foundry building info.
For a home built lathe/milling machine....
The multimachine...it's open-source info...all available for free!!!

Thanks guys! Does this homemade stuff work very well? I like the idea that I can replace any part of the machine should it break. From a self reliant point of view, that's great. But I wondered if it was worth the bother or should I just keep an eye out at the pawn shops for used equipment.
I have some of Chatain's books.
I'd love to melt metal but I don't think my neighbors would appreciate it. I want to buy a homestead and have a shop on it.
