We are building a small cabin(16x24) with a loft..We are learning as we go ???We tore down a barn and have milled and planed the wood into 1inch by 5inch boards. We have it down, and there are a few pieces that have wider gaps than we hoped for (it is not tongue and groove) maybe it is called plank flooring? any suggestions as to what to do with these spaces? i tried some wood putty, but it just doesn't stain nicely.also we have counter sunk screws, so we will cover up these holes as well. also, a while back I asked for loft/ladder ideas especially the angles for the cuts. someone emailed me their plans. well had to replace the computer and lost lots of info.. :( i would really appreciate any comments/suggestions..the floor will be awesome, and we don't want to mess it up...thanks...

Depending on how good your job is to begin with, you could use a router...

Screw a straight edged board along side of the bad joint, and use a router to push along the straight edge and rout through the bad joint with a straight bit. Make several pass' going a little deeper as you go..

It's best to use a bigger router with a 1/2" shank bit, and an up-spiral bit works best.

Then cut a new piece to glue into the routed grove...

For a less perfect fix, use the same straight edge, and saw out the joint with a circle saw, (skil saw) adding a new strip in...
