I have a toilet, 8 years old but its a good one with a 3.5 gallon flush, which is important where I am because I am on a slab, and we have plenty of water.

OK, so I was fixing the flap valve and it went down into the toilet and it won't come out and not the toilet flushes real slow, well it won't flush at all really.

So how do I get the rubber thing out? I can see it but I know its in there. Tried a coat hanger. Can't feel it, but I know its in there. I was thinking of taking it outside and blasting a hose up it. Yes?

Try it.
You might just try turning it upside down.

you might be able to remove the tank for a lil easier access. at the same time i can just remove my toilet in about 3 minutes & take it outside. once outside you can blow it out with your hose or shake it upside down with a lil less mess than shaking it upside down inside :)

if you remove the whole toilet you will prolly need to get a new wax seal for the floor flange just to be smart. i like the ones with the rubber flange for about $1.69. if you remove the tank its also smart to replace that washer at the same time. check supply line for leaks & you should be good to go!

Thanks guys. Sounds very doable.
Toilet needs an enema.

I found this diagram useful.

If I have to I will plug the rim holes and blast the garden hose up the syphon hole, my toilet has one of those, with the toilet laying on its back for some gravity assist. The objetive is to get the plastic or rubber piece to scoot back out the way it came. *I am not sure the toilet will look at me the same way when we are done, but we'll get through it. It's not like it doesn't see myself in a compromising position every day.

I will treat it to a new wax seal, and all should be fine.
Cheers.

Well it turned out that a piece of plastic was not the problem. The problem was a large fossilized turd lodged in the trap area, which had dried out and petrified between the first and second time I attempted to fix the toilet. I guess the moral of the story is not to put off too long getting shit done, 'cause if you do, the same shit just gets harder and harder.
