At first I thought this was a brilliant idea but potentially VERY dangerous...self-closing drawer slides should take care of the safety issue...funny the author doesn't address it....

Wow, that is outstanding!
Actually, with a touch latch, it'd be possible to have a hidden storage compartment under one step! (Although if someone hit it with their toe, it'd pop open!)
Hmmm....now I wonder if there's a way to hide a latch under the overhang of the tread? This could be very cool!

a magnetic 'tot lok' would work. oooh, this is a neat idea.

That is an interesting idea. There could be safety issues. And the stair width would have to be narrow enough to not require a third stair horse. Or you would have to do two side by side drawers per riser. That may be why the old closet under the staircase makes the most sense.

I could just see the building inspector with this one... the red face and steam coming from his ears would be priceless!! ;D

Especially if he tripped on one that was carelessly left open on account of because he wrote up a correction notice instead of just signing off like he is supposed to do. I think it would require self closing hardware.

There used to be a thread around here about hidden rooms and secet doors and stuff, I found this and thought some of you might enjoy it....
