what is the going rate for fencing an acre? something that would hold deer, buffalo, and/or wild boar. I am guessing it would have to be 9 ft. tall for deer. Another question, I have wondered about, why cant I use trees as post and just run barbed wire around them. I don't care if the fence is in a straight line. If one rotted away I could replace it with a post, but I have seen trees standing dead for years.

Hello again Thedford
I'm putting up about 800 feet a cattle fence, and it cost me about 800$ in materials. That works out to be about 1$/foot. Its going to be five strand barbed wire, 5 feet tall, so keeping deer out will cost extra. Trees make good posts. Just make sure that you spike a 2X4 to the trunk of the tree and staple the wire to that. Otherwise, the tree will grow around the wire and potentially kill it. For the corners without trees, you'll have to install H posts to anchor the corners. For wire fencing, a straight fence is the most stable and longest lasting. You first tighten the wire in the direction you are going, then you drive in the posts to support your positioned wire.

The Origional post said "hold" deer, and that means "expensive"....

My neighbor raises deer ect... He found used pipe for the post, and your right the fence has to be pretty tall to keep deer in...

I don't think useing tree's for "sheep fence" will work out all that well, as the fence has to be stretched to be any good, and you won't hold in what you want to hold in with barbed wire...

Yeah, I was talking about keeping them in. I guess raising deer is not a great idea, and I hear hogs are notorius for escaping. I would still like to have a few buffalo though. I have looked at Kenicoves web site, but just wondered what the price would be per acre if I used the trees as posts. Thanks
