I am puting a woodburning stove in a cabin I have in the woods. I am wanting to take one of the pieces of glass out of a window frame and cut a piece of hardie board to screw on the window frame and put the stove pipe through it. I am wondering what is the best way to cut the hardie board edges as well as the round hole in the middle.
Any ideas on cutting the hardie board?

Tommy,
I have know expertise on this but will throw this out there. A jig saw or saws all with the right blade may do the trick for the hole cutting. I would check with whoever is selling hardyboard and see what type of blades they recommend. I've seen heavy sheet metal used for this application. Maybe use some fireproof insulation material with it. I know its not much help. Jig saw blades are cheap. Maybe try a metal blade and see if it will cut it. Remember to be safe incase it snaps the blade. Good luck.

For the straight cuts, you have lots of choices. The cheapest and lowest tech is a utility knife and a straight edge. Score, snap and finish cut. For the hole, again the low tech is a wall saw, or drywall saw. You can use any number of power tools including; circular saw, jig saw, sawzall or rotozip/dremel.
But I like the primitive hand tools because they don't kick up as much dust!
As for fitting the pipe through the hardie board, I'd recommend fire rated caulk.
Good luck and let us know what you use and how it works for you.
