Huck - Maytags used to come with a gas engine, and I had a neighbor who had one. If you can go with an electric motor, do. I was surprised at the amount of blue exhaust smoke and noise that she put up with while washing clothes!
Don't even think about bicycle power for a washer - unless YOU're going to be the engine that pedals it . . . or your ole lady might just stuff your body in the washer before she buries it! :D ;)

I'd pedal power my washer...it'd keep me off the couch in the winter and keep my ole man's sunday best overalls clean...gotta put a little something of myself into everything i do... a little effort never hurt anyone.

I would go with pedal power also, especially if there is a SHTF risk of losing all electrical conveniences. Of course you may not want to use the rationed water for washing either at such times, unless you could take a bath at the same time.

The Amish around here use Honda engines on theirs.

i can see it now - one bike to run the agitator - one bike to run the wringer - one bike to run the pump (if so equipped) - and one thoroughly exhausted homesteader leaping from bike to bike - an entire porch dedicated to an antique maytag -
and the really difficult part is pedaling the wringer while trying to feed clothes through -
