I've currently got 6" of packed down blown in Celulose and would like to cover that with some 25R rolled insulation. It comes with and without a moisture barrier and my question is which should I get?

Tks,

Rick

WHERE are we talking about?? I assume your talking about in the atic?? If so, you don't want a a vapor barrier up there... Vapor barrier's go on the HOT side of the wall/ceiling...

I agree-no vapor barrier. Also suggest "shredded" pink insulation on top, not bats. The more fluff you have, the better insulating properties. It's awful, but my attic has about three feet of the pink shreds up there-best all weather house I've ever lived in...VK

My father had Public Service come in and blow that cellulose insulation in our attic. That was a part of some senior citizen program and it didn`t cost anything. They also installed 3 or 4 roof vents, again free. He then put the un-backed fiberglass insulation right onto that. I believe the theory is, to keep the attic space as close to the outside temperature as poss., and allow moist inside air to escape through the walls so no moisture collects and rots the framing, while at the same time, keeping the living spaces warm. I think I have that right.
