Yesterday my washer started spouting water during the first spin. Luckily I was home, as I often start it up and leave for work! As it was, I shut it off and dashed off to work, knowing there was a mess waiting for me when I got home.

I assumed the drain hose had broken. I could see a stub sticking up from the back where the water had spouted up.

Last night I got the soggy clothes into a tub and bailed out the water so I could move it out and have a look. The pipe isn't broken - there are actually TWO black pipes coming out of the bottom of the washer - one goes to the drain and one sticks straight up, and looks like it was hacked off right at the top of the washer.

Since this is a used set that my brother in law hooked up for me, I don't know much about this set up. Is the stub to let in air so it will drain? Why would water come out of that one? It never has before! Is this fixable? Since it was a used set, maybe it just needs to go out on the curb, but boy do I dread going to the laundromat in the winter again!

CarolAnn, On the back of you washing machine should be three connections. Two of them would be smaller hoses that go to ether faucets or valves for the hot and cold water. A third hose at about 2 inches in diameter goes to a drain. From what you tell me when the washing machine was rinsing or spinning the water that should have gone down the drain didn't. Look for that third hose and reconnect it.

Thanks for the fast reply, Edward! I wrote mine in the early hours of the a.m., worrying about the dang thing. I looked again after reading your post tonight, and the thing has TWO drain hoses. I found out it has a suds saver - and the second pipe would normally go into a big laundry sink so the soapy water can be reused. Since I don't have a sink, I guess my bro in law just hacked it off to get it out of the way - or maybe the previous owner did. The suds saver button wasn't pushed in, so it must be in the switch that would make it pump out that hose instead of the actual drain hose.

I could do a hose, but switches are beyond me. Guess I'll look for another cheap used machine. I've sure gotten a lot of use out of this one, so I can't complain about it going haywire!
