View Full Version : Wally World dumping Mossberg
Having heard a lot of good things about the low priced Mossberg 100 ATR, and wanting one of the rifles in 308 calibre, I stopped in the local Walmart today to buy one. The store only had this model in 30-06 and 270 but listed the 308 in the special order book for only $199. I asked the clerk to place an order for me so he telephoned whomever they relay the order to and was told "no more Mossberg special orders" and that Walmart will no longer sell Mossberg guns after current in-store inventories are gone. The clerk told me that the manufacturer went up on price and Walmart "wasn't making enough money on this line to keep selling it anyhow." I bought one of the 30-06 rifles in stock for the still low store price of $247. These rifles are selling through other outlets and online for a whole lot more so if you've been thinking about getting one then buy now while Walmart still has a few on hand at the cheap prices.

Thats not surprising with Wally World. Mossberg probably wouldnt meet their minimum price so they dumped them, just as they did with Little Tykes, Hoover, and Rubbermaid. Hopefully Mossberg doesnt hurt from this, all of the other 3 companies had to close manufacturing and distribution centers around here after the same happened. What rifles ARE made in China now anyway?

Was in wallyworld today, 30-06 box 20 = 18.00. My sporting good,s store where i go have the same thing for 24.00. I,ll go there to buy my ammo. The lady said 6 boxes of anything are all you can buy. I,ll give my money to some one other than there. They are not one other item in the store that bullcrap apply,s to. That,s my story and i,am sticking ta it. :)

I have bought a couple of firearms from China-Mart, but in the last few years I patronize the two local gun shops, or the Ace Hardware in a nearby town. The Ace can order just about anything, and during the last election cycle had Romanian AK47's for $419=tax. ;D
The nearest Wally World is clear on the other side of the county. The nearest mall is in the next county.
I love small town America! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Our local gun shop is owned by a retired gentleman, a veteran, who knows my name, offers me a cup of joe when I stop in (every saturday morning), and passes along good deals to his customers whenever he can.
An example: he scored some ammo below wholesale, and my price for Winchester 357 Mag Silvertips - $15 a box. Same with Remington 32-20 JSP - $15. ;D
Does anyone think they'll get that level of service at Wally World?
Not likely!
We drove thru a small Okla. town north of lake Ufalia once and along the road, we saw the signs. "Linda's Notions and Stuff and GUNS" Mike's Pawn and Guns" Gold n Guns" "Millie's Botique n Guns" "Gas, Groceries n Guns" gotta love a place like that! The wife was afraid I'd get out right there and not complete the trip.

Yeah, the nearby Ace Hardware lives up to the "hardware" part. ;D ;D
Among other things, I've picked up an AK47 and a Mosin 91/30 there!

In Soldiers Grove, WI, there is: John's T.V. and Guns.
He also has rummage there. (at least I think it's rummage?)

The local farm supply store in our town has a better selection of guns than most gun shops in the next major metro area (Louisville). He's a little high on his high-end stuff, and he's gotten completely out of primers and powder due to outrageous hazmat charges, but he carries a great selection of lower-priced arms (Handi-Rifles) in a LOT of calibers. Bought my .30-'06 Handi-Rifle from him.
It's best to stimulate the local economy, eh? ;)

I would rather support the mom and pop shops anyday, even if it costs me a little more! One Wal mart in our town quit selling guns completely about a year ago, and the other one on the other side of town probably will too.
Plenty of guns at the Walmart i go to, including Mossbergs.
