My wife & I experimented this past weekend with our first attempt at making fresh bread - pumpkin bread.
We had a pumpkin from Halloween (It had been painted - not carved) & when I cut it to get the seeds out to roast them (Now That's really tasty!!), I noticed that the pumpkin was still in great shape.
I told my wife that it would be a shame to throw it away so she found a recipe in a cookbook she had gotten from the Catholic Daughters.
Anyway, after going to the local market for a couple of things I didn't have (like nutmeg & ground cloves) we spent the next couple of hours in the kitchen.
I gotta tell ya that the amount of time it took was a bit surprising - beings it was my first try at it, I didn't realize that you had to cook the pumpkin down BEFORE you start.
Anywho, like my Grandpa used to say 'If you don't learn something new every day, you're not paying attention'.
Well, I learned a bit this past weekend & part of it is Pumpkin bread is really GOOD!!
Especially hot out of the oven!!
We made 5 little loaves & 18 cupcakes with the recipe we had Sunday & only 4 cupcakes are left today.
My wife says that while she wouldn't want to do it every weekend, shes game to give a try every now & again - & that's all I can ask for.
