What are your thoughts on the FN PS90? Would you consider it among your picks for defense of your homestead?

Only thing going for it is the size.
Odd caliber that is difficult to buy, Spare parts are none existent, only factory trained armorers are Law enforcement, and for the price asked. No Sir.
The ammo originally manufactured for this gun is Armor Piercing and unavailable to you. This means you will get a lead cored but that will NOT have the dynamic penetrating capabilities this gun was famous for.

Good points, and thank you for pointing them out. It would appear that I'm better off with my AR, as there's an abundance of parts, it's easy to maintain and cheap surplus ammo abounds. I'm sure it has a better range than the PS90 as well.

My brother has purchased one of the PS90 Carbines and the companion Five-Seven Pistol. Both shoot extremely well and the carbine is capable of 3/4" groups at 100 Yards with a Leupold Compact Scope. The biggest benifit is the large capacity (50 Rounds for the Carbine & 20 Rounds for the handgun) of the magazines. He purchased 5000 Round of Factory Ammo for these guns and will also reload for them.
Biggest PROBLEM is parts. CMMG, Inc in Fayette, Missouri has a good supply of Ammo and usually have the guns in stock. They do have some parts as one of the FN-USA Factory Reps. (Ken Flood) helps them with getting FN products. I think they may start making some parts themselves but am not sure how soon. They had several P90 "Select Fire" Dealer Samples in stock for Class III Dealers or L.E. and they have short barrels if you want to make a Semi-Automatic Registered "Short Barrelled Rifle" transferable on a Form 4.
If you can afford it as a TOY they are great fun.
An AR-15, M1A, FN-FAL, or DPMS AR-10 would probably be a better purchase for far less money

It is an interesting weapon. I like the sights and the bottom ejection, but the ammo it needs is uncommon. If it was chambered in 9x19, .45ACP, or .22LR i could justify giving it a second thought.
