Does anyone here have an opinion (duh!) regarding which of these .308/7.62X51 Main Battle Rifles (MBRs) is best, as far as reliability and accuracy and the ability to digest just about anything?

1) Enterprise Arms Standard or Government metric FAL

2) Century Arms CETME (HK 91 clone)

3) PTR 91 (also a HK 91 clone but much nicer)

4) Rock River Arms (RRA) LAR-8 (I know, they just started to ship, so it's hard, if not impossible to tell yet!

Any other suggestions? Thanks! :D

Bwana,

Out of the 4 that you have listed I would probably go with the Rock River LAR. I have messed with a few cetme rifles and I'm not overly impressed with the accuracy for the price. They do always seems to go bang though. The FAL has been around a while and there are a number of after market up grade parts available for that rifle.

The RRA looks to be built around a Stoner action and IMHO that is a great action to have in any caliber. Also, Rock River makes a really nice,,,,,anything... I have spent some time with one of their National Match AR15s and it is a VERY nice and accurate weapon (chambers can be a little tight at first you may want to run 100-200 round through it prior to staking your life on it's reliability). The Rifle that I shot hung once about ever 15 rounds for about the first 100 rounds. When contacted, the manufacturer they said that is not uncommon as the tolerances are so tight on the rifle that unless you;re shooting strictly "match grade" (what ever that means) you may have minor ejection problems. The problem miraculously stopped after about 100 rounds.

Just my .02

I have a DSA StG 58. Great gun, but it isn't as cheap to shot as it was. *No more South Africian or Port ammo :'(
Magazines are still cheap.

I've thought of a PTR-91. Magazines are cheap, but the parts aren't.

Have you looked at an AR-10. Knight Arm is working on a new weapon for the US Army.

My MBR is a FPK/PSL in 7.62x54r.
Same performance as .308 (maybe better) and 1/2 the price.
Also compatable with my Mosin-Nagant collection.
