I was comparing ammo prices and it is now officially cheaper for me to shoot my M1 than it is my AR15. Not that I'm complaining, I love shooting both, and the M1 definitely has more soul than the Black Rifle. But who would have ever thought that the tiny 5.56 cartridge would be more expensive than the venerable 30.06?

And also, I got my M1 (used though) much cheaper that an AR or even a new Mini-14. You can save money twice. One thing though is the cheap 30-06 ammo sometimes dates back to the 50's and you have to be carefull with old corrosive ammo. I'd recommend doing a windex pass/boiling water rinse whenever shooting old military surplus ammo

Good idea on watching out for the corrosive stuff. The stuff I'm shooting is from CMP, non-corrosive from the 70's. CMP has a ton of Greek surplus for a good deal.
