hope someone can help me.
i order my SKS and i'm still waiting for it.
but i found a deal on some FMJ mil surplus ammo. picked up two crates.
i get down to the store, and ask for it. the guy tells me they are on the floor, check those crates out.
i looked and it says 7.62 x 59 on the box. i'm new to this, and don't know about a lot of stuff. but i've never heard of the 59mm. but i tell him what the box said. he laughed at me and said 54mm. i said no the box says 59.
he said he would grab my stuff from the back and take it up front. when i get up front the crates said 7.62 x 43 i was told this was 7.62 x 39. . . and again, i don't know a lot so i paid and left (it's a two hour drive to get to this place, so i might be pissed if you give me the answer i think i'm going to get0
so from what i've been told since the 7.62 x 43 is not the same as the SKS rounds of 7.62 x 39.
please help.
thanks

Do you have calipers available?
I'm not familiar with any 7.62x43, but there is a 7.62x45 which is pretty uncommon to the point of being rare. It was a czech round chambered in two czech rifles a little sks looking carbine and an AK style weapon. I don't own either but I do happen to have some ammo for them. If you can get me some dimensions, I will be happy to help by comparing the two and seeing which you do have.
I would be inclined to take the ammo back and tell them you want something that says 7.62x39.
It is hard to tell what has been mixed up in a container that has been imported from some dung heep country selling everything it has for food.

I can't tell by looking at the pics... I never heard of either of those sizes...
7.62 mm is the same as .308
The next number is the case length..
That can be 39 mm's which is what you need
7.62x51 is NATO for a whole .308 round.
7.62x54 is Russian
7.62x61 (i think or maybe it is 63) is 30-06 spring field
The 39 mm case is the smallest case so far as I know, and so nothing else will come close to fitting, and if these are in fact too long you won't close the bolt... much less fire one which is a good thing....
You can solve this with a metric tape measure counting milimeters.. measure how long the case is...
Ummm I just hooked my tape measure over the base of a 7.62x39 and get a heavy 1.5 inches....
heavy is about 1/64" more...

i'm trying to get my hands on a caliper, but it's good friday and i guess nothing is open. i might have a line on one, should know in a couple of hours. i will post messurements of the round i have then.
i did find the meausurements of an sks round, i do believe this one is it. we'll see when i get this one sized up.
thanks.

Any old tape measure will do this one since you ain't loading nuthin... The difference is 12mm's to the next size up! That is almost 1/2 inch!.... based on 7.62x51
IF there is such a thing as a 43mm case you would still have a case 1/8th too long to fit or 4mm's to long....
or a measurement of 1 and 5/8th" case.... which won't fit

i'm Canadian, all our tape measures are in mm/cm too lol.
the casing is 39mm.
i got numbers for the actually round from a guy on the sks board. and they match roughly. i'm going to check it with a micrometer tomorrow for the hell of it. but from everything i've heard in the last 8 hours, this round is an sks round.

There is no such thing as a SKS round.... They use 7.62x39.
many other guns also use the same round.
With Wolf as you show, which I can tell that much, or atleast steel cased and laquered ammo, each case will vary a very little bit from one another. Some might be 38mm, others 38.5, and even 39.5 and fit...
I didn't know you were in Cdn....

Oh just incase this floats yer stick... This is the same round the Ak-47 uses in many varients, made in commieblock countries everywhere... Ballisticly it is short to mid range and very much like the Win. 30-30 in character..
