I have two Marlins in 357 and 44mag. I love them both. Marlins are about 340$ in our local stores (price jumped from 320$ the minute Winchester discontinued their model). I've never seen a Rossi in the local stores. The wife and kid especially like shooting 38 specials. Just don't try to shoot very short rounds like target wadcutters. They will jamb in the action because of their short AOL.

How about a 44 magnum Henry? That's what I plan on getting next, or if I can find a nice Winchester of that cal.

I have fondled the Marlins in 44 mag. I haven't gotten one yet.. Notice I said YET!!lol

They look to be very nice guns, I have shot a 357 Marlin and it worked great so lnog as you wern't reaching too far. Anything past about 60 yards and it started to open up. Not a fault of the gun more than likely as much as the hand loads we were feeding it.

i have a marlin in .44mag, and considered getting a henry, except for one reason. on the henrys (as far as i know it's most models) there is a spring loaded follower tube that must be twisted and extracted from the end of the magazine tube in order to load. after loading, the follower is re-inserted and twisted back into place. i'd hate to be somewhere where that tube gets dropped or damaged. on the marlin, the rounds are loaded into the side of the receiver. no detachable tube.

My buddy has a Rossi .357 and it works great. I have a Marlin in .357 and love it.

I also have a .22 Henry Golden Boy and it is the smoothest lever I have ever handled.

I have a henry 22 that is by far the smoothest lever i have ever worked. Not shot the 44 mag one.

Another option is the Taurus pump in 357. Dont know if you are looking for a carbine or rifle (its only available in a rifle now).

Good luck!

My last gun purchase was a Henry .17, I just love it. My next one is going to be a Henry .44.

Um No. The spring loaded follower remains in the tube. doesn't come out. The follower has a little tab that sticks out the side of the loading tube. When the gun is empty you compress the magazine spring by pulling the tab on the follower from the reciever toward the front sight. The magazine tube has a cartridge cut out up at the front of the gun. There is a little notch there for the tab on the follower to slip into. This locks the follower at he front of the gun with that magazine spring compressed. This also uncovers the magazine cut out, this cut out shaped like a cartridge is where to cartridges go in; bullets forward, primers toward the back. When finished loading 10 cartridges release the tab on the followers from the notch as ease the follower down onto the last cartridge. You can see the magazine cut out (loading gate ) in the photo of the Big Boy from the web page.

My next lever action will probably be a Marlin 336 XLR in 30-30.
Tho I have to say the Marlin 1894, in .357 or .44 is tempting.
