I tried a new Remington 7600 at the local Sportsman's Warehouse last night and the fore end rattled and moved around even when the action was cocked. Is this normal for this model, or did I just get a bad one? If they're all this way, I don't think I want one.

The one I had was loose, but I'm not sure I'd say "rattled" but it was a 760, made before the bean counters ruined Remington. I'd compare it with another one at the same shop or a different shop. Good gun, strong rotating lock-up action, I'd think a bit on it before I turned away......

Every one I've shot rattled too.

I never noticed a problem with my 760, but it's an older gun. It is deadly accurate at 100 yards and a friend of mine took his to Africa. He made 10 one shot kills on big plains game. We are shooting 30-06s. I don't know about the newer 7600, but the 760 is a great value.

Indeed.
Lots and lots of used ones around too, so with a bit of shopping and patience, one can likely get a slick deal on a gun that about defines "pratical rifle". See them on-line for $300 all the time. Shippping and FFL fees often offset by virtue of sale tax savings.

I always wished for a better trigger. It's a shotgun trigger really, and left a lot to be desired, albiet I'm anal about triggers.....

Every one i ever picked up or fired would make some noise when "handled"... A deer can hear this a long ways away, so i never liked them. My uncle lost a couple nice bucks just this way, when touching the forearm while sitting quietly for deer. These days most here sit in a small elevated blind so noise isn't as big of a problem as it use to be.

Other than that, they are a very good firearm and most owners like them.
