My DH is a wonderful man. He is more of a poet than farmer. He is mechanically challenged. He tries to use equipment for different work than intended and breaks his toys.
Here is the real issue. We are to the point that a tractor is almost mandatory. We have 27 acres. About 20 of that is hay. The rest is solid granite with thin soil in spots. We need the tractor to brush hog over the rocky areas where weeds spring up. We will want to be able to pull a stuck car from the snow occasionally. Of course move heavy loads, perhaps a 4x5 bale of hay. and anything else a partime farmer would need it to do.

No way can we afford new so what suggestions does anyone have as to the type tractor I might consider here in the Missouri Ozarks?

what local dealers are in your area,

how much can you spend

Do you have anyone who knows how to fix for real..but is not a full time with shop mecanic...

how large is your mower?

somthing to keep in mind, in many parts of the country...older but safe, effective equipment is still costly. So if your not the kind who could do a major overhaul on your own, then you'll need a tractor that works right. based on what you have said, I'd find someone who you can trust and has an idea of what real equipment should run and look like. That is a person who should actualy be knowlageable..and not someone who reads a shop manual to learn how to check the tire preasure.

a retired operator or mecanic and then, when your all happy with your tractor..send them a pie or wright them a poem.
