Hello all,

Dumb question time....
I have several attachement I use all the time such as a 6 foot back blade and 6 foot "tine rake?" along with a homemade drag for keeping the drive way in shape.

I was given a 40" box blade with 3 rippers attached. The rippers are removable. Frankly, I have no idea what I would use it for.

For example, Saturday I cleared about a 1/2 of an acre for a future orchard. I used the front load bucked to rip the sagebrush out and then the tine rake on the back to help pile everything up. I can then use the back blade and drag to smooth and level to a fashion.

What would I use the box blade for? I am thinking of selling it because I never use it. Does anyone use one of these?

Thanks in advance,
HD

3 principles of earth movign are Cut, Carry and Fill. your doing one of them when you move dirt.

a box is just another way to carry with out loosing the stuff your moving.

Mmmm, so I should think of it as a rear bucket in a sense. In my case, since I have a front load bucket it would be redundant.

Thank you,

Thanks Again,

Grader blades are really good at some things, like leveling a yard or cleaning up after the plow trucks in the winter, but a box blade is really good for breaking up hard pack and releveling the surface. In other words, roads and long driveways.

I can get a decent surface with my grader blade, but typically I use my bucket just because of the convenience. If my driveway was longer then 100 feet, I would have a box blade in a heart beat.

We had an excavator come into work here to due some bidding and I trapped him and asked about the box blade. He said he would not use anything else for drive way work. I am going to give it a try.

Thanks for all the replies,
