I am talking to a guy about an old Kubota tiller, the model is GS 280-TE, it is a big thing and I am trying to find some info on it, but have not had any luck on the net. Does anyone know where I might be able to find out a little more about this beast? I have not yet seen it, but it is a walk behind, he said it was kind of big and the handle can swing off to the side. It is not running and my concern is geting parts and a manual for it. If I get it I want to restore it so it looks nice.

Not to send anyone off this forum, but www.mytractorforum.com is a great resource. Those guys know their machines and rebuild a lot of older stuff. When it comes to tractors, I would try there before anywhere else.

Kubota has built a LOT of different walk behind tillers over the years... I think my first stop would be to a Kubota dealer with the model and serial numbers in hand. They can easily look it up and tell you what it is, and what's available for it...
But, i can tell you Kubota pasts and manuals are very expensive...

msta,
I believe you will find that your tiller is very likely a Kubota model AT70S. The GS 280TE is the engine which I believe is 7 hp.
In the past, I have gotten a lot of good information and help from Ronnie Bowman at Tractorsmart in their parts departement especially with respect to manuals and hard to find parts. I am not sure if Ronnie still works there but you might try them.

Have you tried starting the tiller yet?

Thanks everyone.
WRTN, I do not have it yet. It belongs to the son of a guy I work with. He said his son bought it as a project but never got around to messing with it and wants to get rid of it, so hopefully it will be mine next week. It is a 7 hp engine so you are most likely right about it being the engine ser no.

I went out looking for something else, because I thought they were going to back out on the tiller. I found 2 old model 70 riding lawnmowers, they look like mini tractors, so I bought them. Now I found out the guy with the tiller is going to deliver it on Fri. Well, I do have some projects now. *;D
This is not the tiller I bought, but it is this model:

This is what the mower looks like, but this isn't it. My two will need some work.

SCORE! I got the tiller today. Poured some fuel down the carb and it started, then died. Pulled the gas tank off and found the fuel lines plugged, blew them out, hooked it back up, put some fuel in it, then the carb started leaking fuel. Pulled the carb off, cleaned out the ports, assy'd it and walla! this thing runs good. Even did some tilling in the back yard. Looks just like the pic above. Cool! This thing even has levers on the right and left for turning on its own. Next, I need to get a manual for it to learn about it and the maintenance for it.
Had to really check it out, so I made another little garden on the side of the house, that gets a lot of sunlight for the tomatos and corn.
