View Full Version : My Garden Tractor
I love tractors, and have several around but this little Kubota has been VERY handy around the gardens!

Each year i make a little money with it tilling a few gardens, but long ago "every spring" i made a LOT of $$ with it. I had quite a few customers and the same ones called me over and over...
These days it's used for a lot of small jobs includeing makeing elecrticity when the power goes out for an extended amount of time.

I don't have a "high use" home, so it has no problem makeing enough power to run the whole house, keeping the freezers frozen ect... "If" i need more power i put a bigger tractor on the genset.
It's a pretty handy tractor if all you have are small jobs...

It has 12.5 "PTO" hp.....
I hate the way the compact tractor dealers are now advertiseing "engine" hp to make their little tractors "sound" bigger.... You have hp loss' between the engine and the PTO, even more by the time it gets to the drawbar... "At least" rateing them at the PTO allows a better conparison and it's the way "farm tractors" have been rated since they grew a PTO shaft...
As for a PTO gen. set... It takes 2 PTO hp to make 1,000 watts... SO, with this Kubota, i can pull 6,000 watts out of my 15,000 watt. genset. "If" i want more power out, i just put a bigger tractor in front of it!
Another factoid... For "continous" operation, you should NOT pull more than 80% of the max power out of your PTO. SO, i can pull 6,000 watts for a 1/2 hour or so, but after that i can only pull 80% max available. That means with that tractor, i can make about 4,500 watts. continous...
I plug my whole house into the genset and run everything like i always do, and my little Kubota just sits there and purrrs... BUT, when i want to run my shop, i have to put something bigger in front of that generator!

Looks good, DM.
Is the genset direct drive off the PTO or have a belt and pulley set-up?

The PTO runs at the standard 540 rpm's, so the genset has a oil filled gear box on the front to speed things up..

I had a little Kubota pretty much like yours. It was almost as relaxing to get on it and mow our 4 acres as it was to get on the bike and ride a hundred miles or so. Almost. *;)

What model is your Kubota? There is a B7100 for sale here for just under $7,000 with a backhoe & front end loader. I don't need either the backhoe or loader but that tiller would sure be nice for food plots and I wonder if my present brush hog would work.
My Kubota is a B6200, the 7100 is pretty much the same tractor with a few more HP...

When I used to mow the property near Clovis, I never had helpful people giving me cookies and bananas every few minutes... ;)
