OK, now I've got my tractor and I made really good use of the tiller and brush hog this year. The bucket teeth have been great! Also use the tow bar when nothing else is attached for pulling chicken coops around and pulling out small trees. And of course the bucket I use all of the time from pulling up t-posts to hauling stuff around!

I didn't use the 6 tooth ripper that much - might sell it, but have been thinking what is next.... What would you all add next?

My "short" list is:

chipper/shredder - I have tons of brush that could be chipped for mulch rather than burned.

Generator - sell the gas generator I have already...

back blade - there are just alot of lumps and bumps around that need smoothing out!

Back hoe - maybe some day - sure is expensive though.

Even so as I round out my first season with the tractor I've only chalked up around 50 hours on the engine. It's amazing the amount of stuff I got down with so few hours!

I'll just comment on your list....

The ripper: i do believe it will work better than a back blade for lumps and humps unless your ground is soft. Back blades are best used for loose material...

Chipper/shredder: I've owned several and in my opinion, all of them are waaaaaaay overrated!!! To get a chipper worth owning it would cost thousands of dollars! Most all of them will work under ideal cercumstances, and that's what they show you in the add's. Once you get it home you soon find out what REAL work is!! Anything that's wet will soon plug it, so that rules out about 90% of everything you want to compost, and dry limbs are a bear to chip!!

Generator: If you buy a decent one, they work VERY well, and i really do like mine. I like the fact that my tractor is always ready to go, and i'm makeing power using something that has a decent size fuel tank, has fairly long oil changes and if needed it can run for days! I can also run my welder away from the shop with it too!

Backhoe: This is a expensive tool, but can be a very usefull tool too! It's great for digging stumps out, putting in water lines and many other digging chores. The down side is, they are NO fun to put on and take off! They are hard on a small tractor NOT designed to be a TLB (tractor/loader/backhoe) to begin with.

I've always felt it's a better to "rent" a TLB as needed, as most folks don't need one all that often. On bigger jobs, i just hire a guy to come in and do the work.

I think a small trailor that dumbs is a very usefull tool to have around. One with 2 axles and uses the hydraulics on the tractor to operate the dump, is really nice. Not haveing to unload things by hand is a huge back saver!!

Right now i'm working on adapting an air compressor i bought for $5.00 to run off the PTO of a tractor. I have it about half done right now... It's also going to charge batts, as i'm putting a car alternator where the electric motor was...

I'll beable to pump up tires or run an impact wrench any place i can drive my tractor. I'll also beable to drive to anything with a dead batt and charge it up. By adding a batt to the system i'll beable to boost start a vechile, and even run an "inverter" with it too...

Anyway, i hope this helps some..

Great ideas! I was wondering about the chippers and how useful they really are - they are over $2000 too. And if they clog with wet material - well, everything here is wet most of the time! Guess I'll just keep brushhogging the smaller stuff and burning the larger stuff that is still too small for firewood.

A dumping trailer is a great idea! I have a small one on my lawn tractor that I fill with my regular tractor and then go dump it, but a larger one would be great, but in addition come to think of it I've seen manure spreaders around that may come in handy if I get a way to haul the neighbors manure to my place.

I'll give that ripper another shot this winter. It did find a few "treasures" like old stoves and t-posts buried here and there around this old place as I was clearing. Found an old swing set slide in the woods yesterday - maybe the rest of the set is buried somewhere!

Oh, and the other thing I've been thinking about that isn't really an attachment is a trailer to haul the tractor on! If I had that I could start doing some outside jobs with it.

If you are thinking of getting a trailor to haul your tractor, be sure to get one long enough so you can have something on your 3 point and it all will still fit on the trailor...

Usually a brush hog will be the longest tool on the 3 point...

Speaking of "brush hogs", i have a new Woods Brush Bull at the top of my "wish list"... I want the medium duty model, as they make them in light, med, and heavy duty... It would be the last hog i'd ever have to buy!!

The problem is, a 6' footer is $2,200.00, and a 7 footer is $2,900.00..... The "dual tail wheel" option for the 7 footer is another $600.00 on top of that!!

It's NOT looking good for me getting one of those!!! :'(

I guess i need to start fixing up the OLD 6 foot Woods hog that i bought new many years ago!! :-/ It's sure been a good one though!!
