Suzy,I agree!
I don't have a place for an outdoor clothes line, but we do hang our clothes indoors,my dryer broke about 5 months ago or so,I don't remember exactly when.......but have no plans on replacing it as of yet.
I've got an umbrella type clothes line for outdoors, but no where to set it up,so you can bet as soon as we get our house, that'll be one of the first things we set up!
I enjoyed the article on the Zebus. The article about the clotheslines just makes me shake my head. It is not new but just shows the mentality of a lot of people in this country. My sister lived in such a community but it was fine with her because she did not want to hang out her laundry. She worked for a big law firm and really was not home much so I kind of understand where she was coming from. My oldest DD lives in the country and never hangs her clothes out. Why? She doesn't want to.
thanks for all the sweet comments, messages and emails!
It seems everybody all over loves the "right to dry" article....it must have really hit home! My editor seems to think it's one of his favorites too! :)

When I was growing up,Mom had a clothes line that was 40ft long and five strands wide......never owned a dryer until about 1986.....then she only used it in the winter, now she has an umbrella type, and still only uses the dryer in the winter.
I used to hate it when she made me hang laundry, when you're a kid it's embarassing to be seen doing the chores, sure glad I outgrew that attitude.

When I was little there were no clothes dryers and washing machines had wringers on them. Hanging clothes on the line was a way of life, but then again I'm 62 and a lot of things were different when I was growing up. Clothes really do last longer when they are not put in a clothes dryer, I have some undies that never go in a dryer to preserve them from the heat. I have other things that go on hangers right out of the washer too.
Great articles, both of them.
