I have read all of the 'Ashes' series, but not the Mountain Man, are they good?

I am currently reading both of these series and the first mountain man series johnstone wont go down in the anals of great writers, but the stories ore good none the less. All the books from the ashes series are being re-released by his son, and his son is also continuing the story lines with new books.
