One of the better books I have read on preparation did not have any "how to" in it, but rather gave some real level-headed information on the contingencies we could encounter and the way we should think about them. It is called Our Own Worst Enemy - Asking the Right Questions About Security to Protect You, Your Family, and America (http://www.amazon.com/Our-Own-Worst-Enemy-Questions/dp/0446580430/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-5719118-4061506?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1207317302&sr=1-1) by Randall Larsen.

I mention this book because it was a key ingredient in my review of our prep status to include larger global issues and not merely "storm prep". I searched for information that could give me a rational assessment of "larger" threats and insert sanity in a process that can produce a lot of worry and misinformation. I guess this book is where I would start if I were at the place where my prep was expanding beyond weather related issues and I wanted to get up to speed quickly.

Dear Knucklehead,

Howdy, Knucklehead!

That sounds like a great book to add to one's survival library. I'll see if I can find it.

Hi, T-U-O....I found it by accident in our State Library while I was looking for wilderness survival books. It is more of a high-level mindset type book and not so much a how-to book; it starts out with a few anecdotes that you might find humorous to illustrate why we need to "ask the right questions". Having set us up in that frame of mind, it moves to a critical assessment of each of the things we hear talked about online and on the news - Chem-Bio-Nuke terrorism, etc.. I find facts preferable to fantasy, and I have unfortunately not been able to find factual discussion of some of the more serious threats facing our nation, so I really studied this book.

Another book that I stumbled across in the library that really surprised me was Life After Doomsday (http://www.amazon.com/Life-After-Doomsday-Bruce-Clayton/dp/0873641752/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1207338583&sr= 1-1) by Bruce Clayton. I have started studying the intro carefully to find the "flavor" of the author, and I was really impressed by his objectivity. He has a couple detractors on Amazon, but I found the book quite balanced.
