Fiction that helped you get started. I had started this before, what books, TV shows, or movies helped you get started?
For me Alas Bablon, Swiss family Robinson, out of ashes series.

My side of the mountain........I wanted to run away and live in a tee.
Time of the great freeze.........I wanted to survive the coming ice age.....
I read both of them in grade school.

Bradford Angier has written numerous books I read about living in British Columbia wilderness. One Acre and Security comes to mind. Also Grow It by Richard Lang(?) Rascal by Sterling North...though none of these are fiction. I also read My Side of the Mountain, and was inspired by such. Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is a good read especially for kids who have survivalist fantasies. Swiss Family Robinson is good, too. I guess most of my homesteading aspirations weere inspired by non-fiction such as Mother Earth News magazine, The Last Whole Earth catalogue, Handmade Houses, Build it Yourself, Better, Reader's Digest Guide to Gardening, Be Your Own Country Doctor, etc.
