I'm a homeschooling mom that uses as many free resources as possible to teach. I thought I would share some of the resources I have gathered. The first link is my favorite because it allows you to download a PDF book everyday for free. Many are living books but I have also downloaded an old timey sewing manual and children cookbooks.

In many states, the state department of education will provide assistance and materials free of charge. I am a certified teacher in special education and English and I provide support for homeshool parents and thier children with special needs. I am paid by the state and provide this assistance free of charge with no strings attached. Parents are still free to teach what, how, and when. It gets a little murkier when High school aged students want H.S. credit though. But I know many states will provide books and such.

Ambelside is wonderful. Another good one was always enchanted learning. I think it has moved more to a pay per year site, but when my children were little I used it often. Chem4kids was always good too as was brainpop. I know many of the best websites have moved to a pay to use service, but they usually have a few free resources left on them. A reading program that use to be free was bricks and mortar http://www.happychild.org.uk/bkm/index.htm
I am not sure if it is still free. Project Gutenberg has lots of free books for you to download and print for free.
