Sixty-seven percent support giving contraceptives to students, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll.

"Kids are kids," said Danielle Kessenger, 39, a mother of three young children from Jacksonville, Fla, who supports providing contraceptives to those who request them.

49 percent said providing teens with birth control would not encourage sexual intercourse.

Guess we really don't want kids to "just say no" to drugs.

I won't be surprised to hear of some parent suing a school for promoting illegal sexual behaviour by underage children. I believe in most, if not all states, it is illegal for adults to encourage, participate, or entice young children to have sex.

I just did a rotation at the free STD clinic that UMC provides for the community. We had 9 - 13 year olds coming in to get tested for HIV and STDs. When one girl asked me how could she have gotten 5 STDs from the boy she had only known for 3 months, I asked her if she used condoms. She said no because boys don't like them. Although I don't think that schools should be giving out birth control, I do think schools need to work TOGETHER with parents to age-appropriately educate children about what can go wrong if you have sex and especially unprotected sex. We had to test a 13 y/o boy to see if he had HIV because he had unprotected sex with a girl that he KNEW was HIV positive. Needless to say, I had to just about sew my tongue on again at the end of the day from practically biting it off several times.
