I live in southeast Missouri...........we have a very large population of Spanish-speaking people.

I was thinking that It might be smart to pick up some books on spanish for my personal library.

I also have 2 very young kids that I am going to "encourage" to learn spanish. (They pick it up better when they are younger!)

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Can Anybody recommend some good Spanish-learnin' curriculum? :) (I heard Rosetta Stone was good, but its expensive!)

the only reason that I would make my kids learn a foreign language would be if they planned on doing international work. I think that pump action is a pretty good translator

Many homesschool supply companies have great resources especially for spanish because it is more of a common language.

Learning while you drive is great program and it is affordable. My kids and I have used the german version with great sucess. If you can splurge, Rossetta Stone is amazing. Sometimes you can purchase it cheaper on Ebay.

Sorry about my rant, but having to teach you kids spanish so they communicate in area where you live is just a pet peeve of mine. My wife is using a cd audio program that she has down loaded on her MP3 player, She's in healthcare.

From the reports I have seen the best language to learn for future business purposes is Chinese.

My grandson was using the Alpha Omega Spanish for a while. But one morning he asked why he should have to learn "beunos dias" instead of just saying hello. He felt that this was America and new immagrants should learn English. Then maybe as a courtesy he would learn some Spanish. He feels there are just "too many" languages for him to have to learn in order to converse with everyone. They are coming here so all of them just need to learn one language.
I couldn't come up with an arguement in response, so we don't do Spanish now. Maybe someday he will start again.
