Drawing is a great thing to do, which I started to learn when I was 28 years. I was then working in a factory writing computer programs. I hated the job and felt life most boring and dull.

I prayed and fast often for happiness, then once while I was fasting, I happened to see a picture book I brought with me. The beautiful ink drawings in the book fascinated me, every page was a fine artwork. I took up a pen and began to imitate.

Since then I began to draw. I learned drawing and painting mostly by myself, though I haven't become a great artist, but it brings me immense joy and fun, and also has greatly changed my views about the world, about life and many other things. I learn to enjoy life's many blessings and beauties which God gave me yet I was just too blind to see.

I have taught many kids and adults drawing, which also gave me a lot of joy. To see their face lit up when they see they can draw while they had thought they couldn't is a great happiness to me.

Here is a series of art lessons I wrote (5 lessons altogether), hope you can find them helpful:

Thank you!

You are welcome. I hope my lessons could be of a little help to your daughter. I would love to see her drawings.

When I was in high school, my parents enrolled me in a weekend art class. But after a year, I quit the class, for the teacher every time just asked us to draw sculptures or still life. I felt it boring and gradually lost interest. Later I learned drawing by imitating picture books, lovely paper cards, book illustrations, and great artists' artworks, which had touched my heart. I found it more interesting and make me want to draw more and more. After I learned some basic skills by imitation, I would go out drawing from real, and I also like to draw from memories and imaginations.

Once I read a book about Chinese art, it said that in ancient China, great artists trained their students by two ways: imitation and paint from real life.

And I also learn a lot by teaching others and amend my students' drawings. I like to amend their drawings, for often they think their drawing very ugly or unsatisfactory, then I would add some colors here and there, put on some shadows and light, and make both the pictures and my students' face shine. Then when I draw my own pictures, I would not be so scared, for I comfort myself, even if I mess everything, I could amend it as I did for my students.
