Besides cherries and pure cherry juice does anyone know of any good treatments for gout?

Back at ya again Jimmy. I have got gout myself and the best thing I have used is a combo when the toe joint starts to get tender. It's Cherry fruit Extract by Enzymatic and Go-out Plex with black cherry and celery seed by Pilgims. It won't cure it but it stops the pain pretty quick , reduces the swelling and helps it go away faster and stay away from the beer.

My pathophysiology book says to drink lots of water, cherry juice, wheatgrass juice and herbal teas. Blueberry, strawberries and cherries neutralize the uric acid. You want to purge the uric acid out of your body. I am going to assume that you don't take prescription meds for this and that you don't have diabetes. Red meat can aggravate gout as can shellfish. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables following a gout attack. A folic acid supplement can help reduce the uric acid. Many of the doctors are prescribing capsicum cream for gout sufferers at the university hospital I'm doing my rotations at. You an get this OTC. My patients swear it really works. Hope all of this helps you.

This may sound like a dumb question, but are you drinking this or soaking your feet in it? A friend of mine has gout and I thought I'd let him know about this.

Drinking it!!! Oh my gosh - I'm sorry, but I just had an image of my 17 year old son and 16 yr old daughter catching me soaking my feet in cherry juice.....those little smart asses would NEVER stop laughing or giving me crap!!!!! I honestly believe that cherries - fresh, are the best - but they're out of season where I live (Spokane County, Washington State) - I just had a "gout attack" and almost fell down a flight of stairs - just drank the last of my cherry juice, so i'm going to head into town and get some more - ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT - your friend should cut out red meats, shellfish and ALCOHOL!!! :(

For those uninformed, gout is a form of arthritis that is caused by a buildup of uric acid in a joint(s), many times the big toe. Check out the arthritis.org website and see what info they have on it.

I get mine on the top of my foot, close to the ankle - I've only had one MAJOR flare up so far - my foot and ankle swelled up so quickly (ovrenight) and dramtically that my daughter walked into the living room, saw my foot and thought that I'd broken my foot.....then when I told her it was just my gout, she laughed and said "Look, Jimmy has cankles!!!!" She thinks she's pretty funny!!! What is bizarre to me is the fact that I found out I had gout in April of 2007 - I had foot surgery on my left foot because I had two bones which had fused together, so they went in to break them apart...while the doc was in there, he found the gout and "vacuumed" it all out....to have it tested....well, since then, I've never had a problem in my left foot, not even a little swelling or a bit of pain......now if I only had something wrong in my right foot!!!! ;)
