Uses for Hydrogen Peroxide
(Safer and Healthier than Bleach)

This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana (a doctor's wife), and I want to share it with you.She was over recently for coffee and smelled the bleach I was using to clean my toilet and countertops. This is what she told me...

I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little ole bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any grocery or drug store. What does bleach cost? My husband has been in the medical field for over 36 years, and most doctors don't tell you about peroxide. Have you ever smelled bleach in a doctor's office? NO!!!? Why?? Because it smells, and it is not healthy! Ask the nurses who work in the doctor's offices, and ask them if they use bleach at home. Most are wiser and know better!

Did you also know clorine bleach was invented in the late 40's? It's chlorine, Folks! The same Clorine that was used to kill our troops in WWI. Peroxide was invented during WWI in the early 20's. It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of our troops and hospitals. Please think about this.

1. Take one capful (use the little white cap that comes with the bottle) pour it in, and hold it in your mouth for 5-10 minutes daily (it should foam like a mad dog. Try not to swallow, though it won't hurt you), then spit it out. (I do it when I shower). No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash (most of which are harmful).

2.Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs.

3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters.

4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.

5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let it dry.

6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide.

7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.

8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. Try not to snort it into your lungs. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your nose into a tissue.

9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day.The pain will lessen greatly.

10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the 50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide-burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, faddish, or dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually, so it's not a drastic change.

11. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bathtub water to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections.

12. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour it directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.

13. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which is why I love it so much for this.

I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be without! With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way to save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner! I buy a case at a time.

WOW, i can't disagree more with some of those.
we use peroxide at our hospital, but we NEVER put in it mouths anymore. (old nurses will) but it's a NO NO according to our policy that were written and decided upon by many doctors and board members. that is a 3% solution mixed with water or ginger ale.

i've also seen our wound specialist take bottles out of rooms and give that nurse shit for it's use.

we don't put it in mouths and noses would be just as bad. they are both mucus membranes there, that means part of the body that is open to the air, and mucus is created in there to protect it from germs etc.

you wouldn't put this in your rectum? your vagina? no, it's the same situation there.

it's great for cuts right? no, sure it will clean and disinfect a 'bunch' of germs, (not all at 3%) but it's very hard on the skin! soaking cuts, skin etc in it for 5-10 mins will lead to a lot of tissue damage, and doing it over time is insane. peroxide should be put on with a gauze and let dry or wiped off, and NEVER soak in it.

not to mention it's and oxidizing agent, which means it can discolour stuff, i wouldn't put it on wood or furniture.

Rama , thanks for a opposing view . You can never have too much knowledge . ;)

One thing I know will make you cringe is my FIL had very bad stomach ulcers . He started taking a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide twice a day and after six months he went back to the Dr. No more ulcers ! :o

i'm really suprised he didn't help make it worse. it will make mucus bubble and go all stringy. we use it (and i did the other day) to clean trachs. (little tubes that go in the surgical hole in a person throat, and in to their wind pipe) as soon as it hits the peroxide it bubbles and floats the mucus to the top of the solution in a thick string like shape.

stomach ulcers usually heal on their own. . .

Yeah Rama, I know about trachs. I used to work as a NA at Cox hospital in Springfield MO. I did not remember what solution they used to irrigate them though.

I don't know what happened but at the time the Dr. wanted to operate on him. This was before your time and operating was the standard procedure then.

You can also use it to fuel torpedoes.

Add yeast to it and oxygen is given off.. 8)

The KURSK explosion was hydrogen Peroxide as a torpedo fuel; some folk recommend it as a spray on salads { I haven't tried it}; it is also recommended as a spray on soil [garden beds] to oxygenate it. H2O2, if I recollect aright. It is also a cheap hair bleach: peroxide blonde! Deserves further investigation. The ulcer cure may have been the Helicobacter pylori getting wiped out.

Well, as a nurse, I don't use it routinely - but to clean externally around wounds it is used occasionally. We use it to clean around PEG tubes (feeding tube inserted directly through abdoment into stomach or intestine).

I gargle it for a sore throat. Seems to be effective. I have read that it WILL kill most organisms that are normally found on the skin, such as staph aureaus, strep aureus, etc. As a disinfectant for wounds, I wouldn't use it routinely except in a SHTF situation, and then rather diluted, and not for a long period of time. I do keep several bottles on hand though.

One thing it is VERY good at is getting blood stains out of whites. We keep a bottle at the nurse's station for just such emergencies. :)

There is a lot of information out there about taking peroxide internally for everything from lung disorders to infections. Something about the chemical reaction actually breaking down the H2O2 into oxygen. Somebody on a forum was actually advocating INTRAVENOUS peroxide. I argued that it would probably be caustic to the veins and certainly harmful, perhaps fatal - but the guy was convinced.

Anyway, it is very good for multiple household uses and as a disinfectant in a pinch. Moderation as with everything. :)

RN, I also use it to get stains out and I've
never had it to discolor anything yet. It
got dried mustard out of my silk blouse.

I use it to gargle twice a week,
soak my toothbrush, and for wounds.

funny, I just talked to my Amish friend the other day, and we wondered about trying it out next year in the garden to control bugs. She did not remember where she got the information so I checked the internet and found some stuff by a guy named Bill Munro who advocates the garden use. He seems to be an old codger and he claims good experience with it. I sure want to try it.

I had the dentist prescribe oxyegenating mouth rinse for gum problems which was mostly peroxide. I bought one bottle but next time I needed it I just used peroxide. If I get an ulcer or sore place in my mouth I just swab it with a little peroxide a couple times a day for a couple days and it clears up.
