I'm beginning to wonder just what it is about me that makes rheumatologists go into private practice! The last doc I had out at BAMC at Ft. Sam Houston quit and opened a private practice with a colleague and is also doing some research work on rheumatology.
The doc I was seeing out at Audie Murphy Memorial VA hospital left in the middle of July to go into private practice.
I promise, I took a shower, brushed my teeth, wore deodorant, and had on clean clothes each time I went to see the doc :P :P LOL
When I went in for my rescheduled rescheduled appointment today I saw the physicians assistant first. I don't generally like to see them as the one this man replaced had a louse "bedside manner" if you know what I mean. He wouldn't answer any of my questions, and wouldn't let me see my lab results on the computer, nor would he tell me anything about them! After seeing him twice I told the nurse I didn't want to see anyone but the doc after that. I had the same problem with the original rheumatologist and got them to switch me after he put me on a med I told him flat out I wouldn't take because of the side effects! I went for one month without my injectable medication until I got to see the new doc and got him to put me back on the old med weekly instead of every other week.
The PA I saw today showed me the lab results in the computer, told me everything was within normal range except for one that was only 2/10 of a percentage point high, he said it was nothing to worry about.
While we were discussing my medical history I told him about the tests I was behind in, lung CT scan, colonoscopy, and eye exam. Told him I was requesting a change in primary care provider since I've been asking for these follow-up exams since Dec. '06. He put in requests for all three and after we talked with the rheumatologist he walked me down to radiology and had them schedule the CT scan right then and there, it's one month from now on Sept. 12.
Doc also cut one of my meds down from 7 to 5 tabs a week starting Friday. It's one where I take all the tabs on the same day, once a week.
Sure was nice to actually get someone to listen to me for a change. Will be more than happy to see the PA the next time I go back, just hope I don't run him off! LOL
