Lately, when I put my feet up for a while, to kick back or lay down, they hurt when I get up and start walking. As long as I'm on my feet, they don't bother me much. Just wondered if anyone has had this problem before?
Thanks.

I can relate. I think it has something to do with having those little toosies sequestered in the shoes all day and they when ya kick em off and put em up the swellin begins. Maybe. Or maybe they're just gettin even for being stepped on all day.

Don't know if this will help, but it's easy to try!
I told my friend that the first three steps out of bed in the morning were agony! She said she'd had the very same problem - but her foot doc said to do this and it worked! Before you get up, point your toes and rotate your feet. Point your toes up (toward your head) - then point them down. Repeat. All this foot wiggling stretches your leg and foot muscles and prepares them for activity!
No more painful first steps! I do this every morning now and NEVER forget - because the one time I forgot - ouch! The pain was back!

I just went to my back doc today, she said about the same thing. next time she will masage my feet, but every day she wants me to spell out the alphabet with my toes, this will be like a stretching exercise and should help. I'll have to try it.

This is probably 'plantar fascitis'. It involves the plantar facia (the ligament that runs from the heel to the ball and toes). It is a painful condition that sometimes will resolve on its own, with help from you. Try the exercises first. Another one is to balance the ball of your foot on a thick book and rest your heels on the floor-sort of a backwards high heel(or toe). I had this condition several years ago due to standing on concrete floors. I had my podiatrist fix my foot. First we tried exercises, then a 'boot' I wore at night that would stretch the foot, then he would tape it with that white tape and padding, orthotics, cortisone shots, and celebrex pills. Nothing worked. He finally performed an ultrasound procedure that is similar to the one used to break up kidney stones. After a couple of weeks to get over the procedure, my foot got better.
He told me to ALWAYS wear shoes...even inside. Try not to stand on ladders for any length of time either. Good luck...Foot pain can make you hurt all over.
