View Full Version : Heart disease
My doctor wanted me to have a new kind of ct scan to check for plaque in the heart. It is called a Cardiac Calcium Scoring. I had it today along with a lipid profile. The news is not good. I expected my colesterol to be bad but the ct scan is really bad. A score of 400 is bad news and means you probably have blocked arteries and are at high risk for heart attack. My score was 963! Needless to say I will be having a stress test, probably Monday. Nurse called this afternoon and said they would set it up and call me tomorrow. My family has a terrible history of heart disease. My daddy died at the age of 47 with a heart attack, my Mother died with COPD, my next to the oldest sister had a heart attack 8 years ago but is doing ok with her heart now, my brother has had 2 heart attacks, and my sister just 3 years older than me has had one heart attack and had triple bypass 6 years ago and 2 months ago she had to have stints put in because one of her bypasses was completely blocked. Maternal and paternal grandparents and aunts and uncles have the same history. Ya'll pray for me. I can't imagine why I haven't taken better care of myself but, I sure haven't.

Faye you better start likin' brown rice and salad. :'(
Dango girl ! That is scary.
Good luck with the stress test.
It is scary. To me it is scarier than my cancer was. The thing is I had already started eating better and getting more exercise so, I'll just have to keep trying and do even better. I already like brown rice and use it because Roy is diabetic but, I am not crazy about salads. Thanks for the concern.

My family has this, too; on my dad's side. So I am a bit freaked lately, as if I don't have enough health issues. Anyway, I have not had any tests on this, but maybe will look into this in a few more years.
For now, I am trying to eat better and I am dieting.
I think cancer is still more scary and so glad you made it through that :)
I had aortic valve replaced about 10 years ago. They put in a valve made of some cow parts. Pig would have been better, or maybe a mechanical heart. I dont know.
Mine lasted a few yeaars and then started to go bad.
I had two hip operations, and two cancer operations and one gall bladder operation with this new valve anyway.
Now heart doc says all is stabelized. I am in great shape and it should last 100 years. Another valve leaks so i have to have shots once a month to the tune of 1,800, and b12 also, but that cost is just a little.
Bill had two stints put in his heart just before or after mine, i forget, and he is doing fine.
Sues hubby had two stints also and he is ok as ever.
I would never worry about a heart operation again. I think it took 4 days in the hopital.
Even my cancer operations last year were a piece of cake, but don't ever give me a hip operation.
Maybe it would have gone ok if i had gone to a regular hospital just after the operation, but i chose to go to a nursing home. Big mistake.
I really needed ongoing medical care and theraphy to learn to walk again, etc. but it popped out in the nursing home and had to be done again.
Nursing home, big mistake. No comparison to hospital care.
I had to learn to write all over and play with children's toys to get equiliberim back. That was two years ago, and i all is well, but i walk with a cane and hold on to someone's arm. No need to except for a fear that i can't get over.
Wish you well in your trial, and keep up your spirits. It really is very helpful through one trial after another.
--and boy, does all this care medical cost the taxpayers who hate people who live off the dole when they should have been dead, like some of us old folks.
I shiver when i think of how it was with us in nazi germany.
--and boy, does ongoing bad health eat up our family resources in so many ways. I guess it would have been better to have chosen better genetic patterns. ha!
Bad choices? Never had a choice. love, alma
