Hello,
I had a Brahma Hen pass away yesterday. *Last nite I noticed another hen having trouble walking & observed it eating while laying. *I've tried reading up on diseases/illnesses. *There's too many that sound like it.
To provide add'l info about our chickens:
We have a flock of 30 Chickens, they're let out during the day & have plenty of grass to eat. My dad observed her today & said that it's almost like it's weight is too heavy for it's body.
We're feeding Grits for a treats, we have egg shells out, they're not eating pellets, its not ground, they're like little beeds of grain.
Could this be a vitamin deficency?

So I thought I'd post here in hopes that someone may have encountered the same issue.
Thank you!
Kimm

I don't have an exact answer for you about this chicken, but I do know the most common disease in poultry is myoplasmic gallesepticum (sp?). They say injecting tylan will solve it. My vet just gives sceptomycin (sp?) in the water which is much simpler.
I bought a bunch of hens from a sale one time that started to die within days. Then my chicks started to die and finally my chickens were ill. They were wheezing, had swollen eyes, just really sick. It was MG. Within one day of medication they were much better. The first symptom I saw was swollen eyes like when a mammal has conjunctivitis. But it kept getting worse to where they were lying down, then dying. And that is the most common disease in poultry, so they treat for it first.
