You mentioned once that you had a rabbit shed with manure and urine diversion/collection systems. Can you post a picture and explanation of how the system works? I'm getting tired of emptying pans.

Pat

Hey Pat.....

I move the rabbits outside over my worm beds for summer....moved them out about 2 weeks ago, so i won't be able to take pics of the 'set-up' again until fall. :(

The system is simple.
I use all wire cages. 30x30x16...1/2 x 1 inch mesh for the floors.
Cages are hung in the shed at the same height...rows of 4.
There's a tarp under all 4 cages that's pitched so that all manure and urine runs to one end,
At the end of the tarp there are 2 Rubbermaid totes..one for urine and the other for manure. The one directly at the end of the tarp is for urine. I have a piece of 1-8 Inch Mesh Hardware Cloth framed and pitched to the second tote.
Urine flows off the tarp through the hardware cloth into tote one.....manure rolls into tote two.

Manure is saved for compost or used in my indoor worm bins......urine is used, as needed, as a compost booster.

Hi Pat,

Just adding my 2-cents.

I also hang my cages from the barn wall. Below the cages is a 6-inch tall opening. The space runs the length of the cages. I then attached corrigated metal roofing to the front of the cages and extended it out the 6-inch space. The metal is at a slant.

We call it the poop-shoot.

The droppings roll down the metal and into retangular bins on the outside of the barn.

We chose the metal because rabbit urine is corrosive.

When the bins are full we add the manure to the garden or compost.
