This has been one of my major "complaints" or concerns since I joined this forum.....
Way too many useful threads are eventually lost to deletion....
I'm willing to volunteer my time to archive any and all old threads...
Well?
~Martin ;)
Thanks. That is a great idea, and thanks or helping in that massive endeavor.
I hope that oliver goes for it, big time. love, alma

Since we've moved to a dedicated server with Many gigabytes of disk space, we've note found it necessary to delete old posts. I don't foresee having to even consider it for years.
That said, what do you have in mind regarding an archive for threads with useful information? What, where, how, etc.?

Cool! That's great news! We've lost a lota valuable threads.

Nothing special really... I thought at the very least...threads could be saved as text files in an online searchable database...like some of the old listservs.

I know that some past subjects were saved by some of the forum members maybe we could get them to submit copies of the info?

I'm pretty computer saavy and would be happy to help in any way I can. If the posts Alchemy refers to are already deleted, than I suppose there isn't a lot of hope for getting them back unless there is a backup from that time period available.
The most efficient way I know of storing information on a server that allows multiple access is the same way these forums are stored, database structure.
If there was a backup of the old items, they could be restored into a separate database that could be searchable. I have access to webservers where I could restore backups for testing or even permanent storage purposes depending on the bandwidth and size of course.
Anyway, just some ideas, someone contact me if I can be of assistance.

Wrote this on floppy last night. Sue is going to help me copy and paste it.
If it will help, i have lots of disks with posts from a few years back, mostly
mine but some others too, comments re my posts and some others i just wanted
to save.
They are mosty on small floppy disks and some are printed up.
Some of the things are about mpt and some of the stories we all wrote together .
about same.
I collected a lot of survival info, and that included how we survived during
the great depression of late 1920s and 30s.
My exploits during the sixties when i lived in d.c., anti-war stuff and civil
rights stuff. I worked at Dr. King's headquarters for several months, was there
when riots started after his assassination.
Wrote about all these things, and have some of the comments made re same.
You may be able to use the computer numbers to collect other things of that era.
I wrote about the alaska gold rush, guana deposits in peru, cocaine use by the
natuives in peru, development of panama canal as direct route to peru for these
deposits for making fertilizers, explosives, and later plastics.
I wrote, and saved, my opinions re the war in iraq, and have some of the com-
ments others made re same.
The development of the tennessee valley to hold back spring floods, letting the
water down in dry season for agriculture, and generating electricity at same
time, shooting spark of eledtricity through platinum catalyst to make nitric
acid for fertilizer, etc..
I wrote about religion and save some things others wrote, including "gods who
were men" about ufo in the bible.
Tesla, Moe Berg who collectd pics of japan that were used in dropping atomic
bomb on Japan during wwii. He was ball player, and scholar, and picked up info
for govt. when he was in target cities for them.
What d.c. was like when all the doors were open and people could wander all
over the capaital buildings.
Health issues, survival issues, y2k stuff, tvp stuff, recipes, household hints, etc..
Can't think of much more at the moment, 5 a.m. here, haven't slept much tonight
as usual.
--about the depression, wwii, vietnam, iraq, etc.
Misc interesting people of my time, fr. coughlin, velikovsky, Hearing hitler on the
radio, hunger and privation of the depression years, etc.
Games we played years ago, and how it was with mothers at home takaing of their
own kids.
I'm trying to gather many such things in book. A lot of interesting comments
re everything under the sun re the times in which i lived and some of the com-
ments from others.
Maybe the computer numbers or something will help you to bring you to the place
where these, and many other things were discssed on the forum. Tired, back to bed,
and maybe some sleep now. love, alma
