We gave a horse of ours to our friends last year because the wife needed a safe broke horse to ride. He was a thoroughbred, very gentle and loving.
Well just yesterday during the winter blast that came through, the husband opened the stock trailer for the horses to get in out of the weather (even though he knew that wasn't a good idea) and the horse's foot went through the rotten boards (which he thought the floors were good) and broke his leg right in half. The next day when he went out to feed, he found him laying in the trailer still alive, so they had to "take care of him". The "dead truck" came today to haul him away.
Just a lesson, even though you might think it's best to use the stock trailer as cover, it's not a good idea. They need proper shelter like a barn or lean to. He knew better, but that was all he had on the new property they just bought.
Our dear friend (horse) will be missed.
