Could this be the reason?

I also think it is because of early American protestant roots.

I'm not sure but I did live in Europe for seven years....my favorite vacation was Spain....most people are topless on the beach....it didn't feel weird no one stared and my kids (a boy and a girl) weren't freaked out.

Yes....I went topless....wouldn't do it here although I must admit my boobies long to feel the sun and surf *;)

edited to add....and no I don't have pictures....yeah I know how the minds around here work ;D

The reason there that way DonnaKay is because it's like the orininal Sin When told not to we want to find out why. where it's OK in europe it's no big deal. Thats what I like about our place up north , no people around. When we were in a mountain man club it was nothing to strip down and everyone go into the sweat lodge then jump out in the snow and make snow angles. It was like we were little kids again.

We used to spend a lot of time at hot springs around the state. And a couple of beaches. These beaches had NO children, anywhere, anytime....all adults.

One night at the hot springs....a couple of guys were trying to get friendly with her. Then asked..."who is that guy"? she responded...."my husband". It was funny. I thought they were able to walk on water.

Certian places don't need a sunburn.........

I work in a nursing home and I see more nudity than I want. And it ain't pretty! And both the male and female bodies suffer from the effects of gravity(guys you don't want to know what happens to the boss and the twins)
So if you look good now enjoy it while you can!

The opinion of whether someone looks "good" or not is in the eye of the beholder, IMO.

My man is 52, as I myself am, and gravity has had its way with both of us... but he still rings my bell any day of the week.

;D

And from the way he acts, apparently I ring his too.

::)

As far as the nudity topic, I think it probably started with Christianity. I subscribe to the belief myself. Nudity is for the bedroom... and the shower... in private.

There are plenty of places where nudity is tolerated in the U.S.

Hot Springs
Backcountry Beaches on the Olympic coast in WA
Nude beaches, if you know where to find them.

I highly recommend a public nudity hot springs just north of Ourey, CO as the waters and eye candy are truly healing.:yes4:

I prefer nudity... in my home. As long as it's a comfortable temp. But I keep the filmy curtains closed when I do it. My neighbors don't need to know why I value myself and DH so highly, or whether I trim in a heart shape.

I had aquaintances who were nudists, who would not only be inside, but outside in their yard nude, with their children. The neighbors couldn't have outdoor parties because the nudists were blatantly open, coming up to the fence to chat, no matter who was present. What was really bad is that they didn't even have the decency to sit on towels on their furniture - so whatever was left there, you got to sit on/in too if you were nude. Maybe you can't "get it from a toilet seat" but the thought of sitting inadvertently in someone else's (hopefully dried) bodily fluids is just gross to me. Most nude folk are really not that attractive dressed, much less nude, so looking at someone else's rolls and cellulite doesn't appeal.

I don't care for gratuitous nudity any more than I care for gratuitous violence. Benny Hill wasn't any funnier with those girls' bosoms bouncing everywhere! I didn't mind skinny dipping with friends or family when I was a kid or an adult - but far too many people think it is an automatic invitation to sexual advances when the body starts to develop. Nudity, like high heels, has its place. And IMHO, it isn't in front of strangers, because you never know how they will react. I prefer my privacy.

I guess it can reduce your A/C bills in the summer.

I've heard storys from my mother that ever since I was a wee one they couldn't keep cloths on me. She would send me out to play and the next thing she would see is me running nekid across the lawn. The place we will be moving to can not be seen from any where except straight up. I have yet to find a great swimming hole yet. Thats the best.

flatwater,

You might want to look into one of those wood burning hot tubs. I got a hot tub and nudity in it is optional!

I have one of those tubs but I still need to get a snorkle stove for it. Swim suits will be optional.

As for the nudity question in general. I think most people like the feeling and freedom of nudity, but because of their upbringing and societal attitudes most are not comfortable with the idea.

We have a couple of friends who are very active nudists spending vacations at nudists camps/resorts. We went as guests once and I could take it or leave it. Not because I was uncomfortable, but why should I pay to get naked. I have a place in the woods that is completely private and me and the old lady can run around in the "all together" any time we please. Our only issue is, you have to wait until late summer or early fall or we would end up one big bug bite.

I believe in freedom and liberty and nudity is an extension of that. I do not have any neighbors so I'm not offending anyone.

Years ago and far away, at a clothing-optional place called Harbin Hot Springs, I floated blissfully in the big pool the night of the Perseid meteor shower. As the stars fell, from the small pool came a chorus of voices: "Amazing grace, how sweet the sound..."

Prurience is in the eyes of the beholder, as well.

Sounds sublime, almost spiritual.

It was. So was the watsu (shiatsu massage in the water) experience. It was like being birthed by a mother dolphin. Never felt before or since such a total acceptance of my whole being, flaws and all.

This type of water massage was born at Harbin. If you ever get a chance to try it, do yourself a favor and say yes. Like the singing in the warm pool, it was "amazing grace."

There is a HUGE difference between nudists and exhibitionists. Nudists crave the freedom, exhibitionists crave the attention.
