Green.

(I don't mean this in the environmental sense, but in the sense that it is the colour I wish to see when I look out my back window. :))

Real.

The world is SO full of fakes. Food (could go on and on with examples here), Cleaners (chemicals), love (think "the bachelor"), reality (anything on T.V), parents (day care), security (those who think the gov. is looking out for us) and the smiles on all those people who believe that these things are "real".

I am happy in knowing that my smile IS real :)

Well, it's a word that's been on my mind a lot lately, 'El sheddai', which is Hebrew for 'the all sufficient one', meaning of course God. God is, for me, El sheddai, but when I think about it, my home here is sufficient. *Not self-sufficient in the sense that I provide everything I need myself, from my property; *but in the sense that it's enough. *

Nope, it's not a very swift little house as some would guage it. It's an old wood frame farmhouse that was moved here many years ago, it's only a bit over 1600 s.f., but it is quite roomy and comfortable, and it's paid for. Yeah, a hurricane could flatten it (hasn't yet and I've stayed in it through three hurricanes) or a forest fire could consume it and I"d be up the creek. But it's enough. I like it, it's a wonderful little house in my estimation.

My property could support me better, but that is because of my own laziness, lack of money, and sometimes not being able to see the literal forest for the trees. I need to redouble my efforts to build new raised beds so I can grow more, and to finally get something going with hatching chicks to sell. Got to come up with some sort of plan, a time table for doing it through the year, for getting some more breeding stock, etc. Hurricane made a mess of the back of the property, need to work more on that.... sigh.

But, overall, my little 'homestead' is el sheddai. :)

yuk yuk yuk *;D ;D ;D

Y'know, after I posted it and saw it on the board, I thought, "Oh, crap, that's 333's signature!" :o

Sorry!!! LOL But it is how we feel about our place and our enjoyment of it... we have sprung the surly bonds of earth, the bustle and gottahaveitnownownow, and the creeping death of the city and its misery, and are at peace here.

In six months since we moved here, all but one of my friends have stopped emailing and have forgotten us. (Which does not concern me as I predicted it.) Some were jealous, but most are just so busy racing round and round in the life that we no longer are a part of, that they simply drifted off...

We have a 50 mph blizzard blowing outside, the house is warm, the soup is on the stove, and DH is napping after a hard morning and being out feeding, cleaning the ice out of the hooves of, and blanketing the horse, while I am cooking and baking. Someone called today and asked what we were doing for Christmas, and DH told them, "We're doing it." They... felt sorry for us!!! ::) ;D

So sad about the people that don't understand. When we used to live in the burbs many long years ago, we had some friend move out in the sticks we felt glad for them and it made us want out even more. We still e-mail and have fun visiting them from time to time..

Natural.

I read in the Old Testament, and God's people were always working the land, tending animals, seeing the hand of God in the natural things around them. I think the kind of lifestyle I crave is the "natural" one for a human bean....in sync with God, the seasons, and Nature itself.

I guess the word "healing" would be the one real word I would use. There is something very healing when I'm at the mountain place.

Grower, I like what you said here. Being in sync with God, the seasons, and Nature itself... how very true. When folks go with the flow, as they say, and are in harmony with the natural life around them... I don't think they can help but be in harmony with God too.

As Robert Heinlein observes "you can have peace and you can have freedom but you can't count of having both at the same time." * Between the two I pick freedom which is what homsteading and self reliance is all about. *Homsteading gives you... freedom.

Honesty..
I am not a homesteader, due to life circumstances.. But am one in my heart... Why the word honesty,,,, Because to live real, and Honest with oneself and nature is what it to me is all about..
