There are all sorts of illnesses that can and do attack the body and bring about its demise. Every material thing we understand falls prey to its own unique “evil”: wood rots; iron falls prey to rust; the body dies of the illnesses that attack it; and so on. But what is the “evil” peculiar to the soul? Of course, as we have seen, the soul’s peculiar evil is injustice. But the souls of unjust men are not destroyed by injustice, and neither are the souls of just men. If a thing can be destroyed by its own particular evil (and only that), and if the soul cannot be destroyed by its own particular evil (injustice), then the soul must be immortal.

Peace ,

This is all predicated by the beliefe that there is actually a thing which you call "a soul".
Your post is rife with logic of a naturalist .
I too like this analogy it works quite often in opening new mind to critical thinking. All things in the universe have and serve a purpose,..ie nebulia spew new stars and Black holes suck them up.. so logic would say that on the other end of each subject is its opposite. For every Nebula we discover there is a Black Hole feeding it. True ... possibly? proven? Not as of yet. The beauty is we get to believe and discuss as we please. that is how we eventually come to "know" and then repeat the process on new and "higher" levels.

If a thing such as a soul were to exsist then it would be fruitless if it werent eternal.
Please accept my debate for which it is I am neither for or against your thoughts I am a proponent of the free exchange of wisdom. You gotta love philosophy..wait thats redundant. Philo(love) Sophia(wisdom) ;) ;) ;)
