ANY of us who are trying to establish a homestead or just get into the country know the many obstacles that pop up and make things unbearable at times...
"silvergramma" has been emailing me for prayer. She has multiple things coming against her right now and sounds as though she's truly drowning. She's such a hardy soul and I so admire her spunk. She is handling all of her emergency time alone. She is out of money although she has been able to find a small job that will begin at the end of May. Please take time to remember her and lift her in prayer. She stands to lose everything she has so diligently been working to accomplish. The picture I have in my mind is that the harvest is ripe and ready to come in... and the farmer is looking at his field through a window with his leg in a cast... unable to help himself...
Thank you for remembering our older Friend...

................
Dear grizzy and gooddaughter.
You are both so tender and kind and thoughtful and help us oldtimers to keep up our spirtits through thick and thin.
thank you for your love, and prayers for this grandma and all grandmothers, especially during this mother's day weekend.
I know that the spirit and fruits of the spirit are what often keeps us all going when all else seems so far away.
--and you both certainly display abundant fruit.
"by their fruits ye shall know them." love, alma

Praying!
Kat
Ya know, after rereading this post today, i just happened to think about something someone told me years ago.
"You can pray all you want, but if you don't put gas in the car, it just won't go."
Maybe silvergramms needs some physical as well as spiritual help.
What say ye? love, alma

Alma... You know, I thought about that, too... My aunt used to always pray with me and then she would give me some money too. I would ask her why she wanted to do that? She told me that you have to feed the body and the spirit... I'll try to get in contact with her for an update...

Because Silvergramma uses the computer at the library, I do not hear from her too often. But as soon as you posted that, Sue, I sent her an email to ask her position. I will bring her words when she replies. Thank You for having a heart who reaches out with compassion. Gramma appreciates all of you soooo much.

I'm brand new to this site. My name is Ginny. Here in MO there are 2 places that can help with food needs. One is Angel Food ministry. The other is Colorado Shares. Both are thru two different faith base minisrties...YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BELONG TO THEIR CHURCH. Don't know if these are avail. in North Dakota.Try to "Google" them in your area.If one need is met, maybe any "extra" money can go towards her other needs.
Here's a saying I tell myself alot...I don"t know where I heard it from:
"Stop telling God how big your mountain is.....Tell the mountain how Great Big your God is!!! "
....when two or more agree upon any one thing.......
My Prayers are with you...Ginny

I heard from Silvergramma today... Here are her words..
Lady its unreal what God is doing and has done since i emailed you last
.. got the new job.. please pray i do well... three days after i got
the job the tires incident,, the next week was hitching at night...
prayed through for safety.. God answered each time,, a lady and her
hubby drove right by me one night and they were both in their own
vehicles she called him on cell phone told him go back and get me.. he
did.. i told him the story and he later told wife,, she is one of the
waitresses where i work came up and introduced herself ,,she said her
hubby was a mechanic and they wanted to help.. she said she would give
me a ride home and see what the numbers were on our tires.. she did
that night they came back the next day and took both the spare and the
two flats off our truck and fixed the flat and gave us two really good
tires then tested our battery and found a good used one they had and
also found out what was wrong with our headlights he replaced two bulbs
on low beams and all we had to do was re-emburse for the cost of the
bulbs... now we have to come up with the money for renewing the truck
license and get myself to an eye doctor so i can get new glasses.. my
drivers license is expired and am driving without license but still
have to work,,,
remember the chickens and goats? some one gave me four more three
billys and a pregnant nanny... one
of the billys is retarded and will
have to be put down he is dangerous has attacked me several times and
has gone up to the cemetary and messed with the public visiting
graves.. when i came home today from doing chores at the old place he
was at the cemetary bothering people there.. the rest of the animals
stay on the property....... now lost a money order that hubby sent home
to pay the rent it was for 150 dollars and cant find it anywhere,, am
thinking someone got into my tote bag at work and took it,,, i didnt
have my wallet in there but had some of my books and mail in it..had to
ask hubby to send another one and then i was using the landlords
lawnmower to cut the grass at new place.. hit a rock and bam.. now
gotta pay to have lawnmower fixed when we cant even do that for our
push mower,,, like you said .. mischief.. its been non stop.. and its
frustrating...but i've been getting some good gospel music coming
through the radio to edify me and encourage me...this next week we dont
have enough cash flow to keep gas in the truck and still move the rest
of our stuff from the old farm and keep going to work .. gas is now
2.59 a gallon for super unleaded which is cheaper than regular...
dont know what to expect next.. but am not getting 40 hours a week and
am only making 7.25 an hour..
I am located just west of Dunseith,, North Dakota... which is off of
hwy 5... North of Rugby on hwy 3 is the old place...
dont know what kind of help could come..
I am having to pull up old fencing and these are wooden posts anywhere
from 4 -6 inches in diameter and pound them back down in to the ground
this week .. Hubby isnt home so its all on me..and my mare is going to
deliver her baby tonight she is leaking colostrum... having to hook up
hoses behind hoses behind hoses to get water from the 200 gallon tank
which catches rainwater from the house.. and a friend here is fronting
me a 20 round bale till i can get the rest of the posts in the ground
to connect the electric fence up well i am also out of minutes on my
tract phone cant afford to have both house line and cell must have one
with me at all times.... miss yall and my grocery store where i used to
get all the good buys is now closed due to their being no longer
wholesalers they can buy damaged groceries from so its a good thing i
bought what i did when i did... love you guys...miss yall....will get
to a computer when i can afford to get enough gass money to go to the
library am on a computer that my friend has she is giving me the bale
so the horses can eat till i get the fence finished,, it has been hard
to move stuff with weather behing high prairie winds and or rain... or
i have to work and gas being limited.... just keep praying,,, its all
in his hands

After a brief introduction (online) to Silver I have not been here as much - it is warmer so we are working like mad outside too. *We still have the possibility of frost HERE the next few nights and I am about 200 miles SOUTH of Silver. *The greater chance for a hard frost is up in her area - not sure how her livestock is set up (water) and it makes a cold trip for one hitching a ride to work. * Sounds like she needs prayers and WARM thoughts from all of her friends here. *
Mike & Sue - She is about 200 - 220 miles almost due north of Bismarck. *Not sure what part of SD you are in - but that may give you more of an idea. *Silver - you are in my prayers tonight.
For you not from this area it was a tough winter here (-44 F on Jan. 15th - actual temp NOT WINDCHILL) in Bismarck we had 101.2" of snow (101.5 is all time record). We banged up our new 48" snowblower that we HAD to buy to get out so I could get to work (hubby laid off). The rocks and slop under snow - blower sinks, hooks ground and catches rocks!), the slop (forms ice chunks that feeze and hang on wiring under vehicles until they break) ripped the lights out of the back of the pickup and locked up brakes & siezed up one tire on the flatbed hay trailer*- while we were pulling it. Next it flooded - Fargo made the news more than anywhere but many communities from Minot (90 miles from Silver) to Beulah, Hazen, Bismarck, Mandan, Valley City, Jamestown and west toward Dickinson had flooding. 2009 has been tough up here and sounds like Silver has had it extra tough. Prayers for you Silvergramma!

I haven't been around since the end of May... been keeping busy here on the homestead. Praying for silvergramma & hoping all is better for her now. Don't see a recent update so hopefully things are on the upswing for her and her hubby. Will continue to pray, now that I know about this.

Not sure how silvergramma is doing. I read thru part of the posts. Try the Salvation Army, they have helped me alot out here in Ohio. Also try the churches. The church I attended paid for my plates/registration. Call 211. They will direct you to all the places that can help in your area. Find out where the food banks are and go get some food. Save any money you have for your bills and repairs. Call the grocery store. Sometimes they will give you the produce scraps for the animals, also pet stores will sometimes give expired food for the livestock. Do you have PIPP out there? They help with electric and gas bills. I think it's called lifeline for the phone bills. Try Catholic Charities. I don't think you have to be Catholic to get help. There are places that will help you get a car but I can't remember what the names were. Try searching free car or something like that. We have a place called the Lady of the Wayside that sells cars. They take whatever you can pay I think. I got 2 lemons but they got me around for awhile. Hope some of that helps. Good Luck. I'll say a prayer for you!

Hope she's ok. Glad she has her husband to help. If she needs help with the animals let me know. I may be able to get some of the rescues to step in and help. Sometimes they take them on a temporary basis. Wish I could do more.

She entered a blog a while ago in the ND state section. She said her mare had a filly and it was healthy. I wrote back about 2 weeks ago - we went to the lake which is somewhat near where she is. It has been a cool summer in this part of the country and dry where she it. The crops are behind up there and hopefully they will catch up - the area economy depends heavily on the ag income. That could help her job/income opportunites. There were even good June berries the first week of August in the "hills" - and that is behind! I hope things are turning around for her too!

copied and pasted from Silver's email today:
Hey there,, on a friend's puter ... give the guys an update on
situation...we just bought two more horses... a 15 month old colt and
his lil brother from a widow lady who needed money .. said she couldnt
keep them through the winter,, paid 70 dollars for the older one and 50
for his lil brother,, the way these horses are built and bred omg...
1,000 a piece easily...we named the older one Dozer and his lil brother
Tank from the brothers in the first Matrix movie... we now also have 17
Grey Back gees,, thats the name of the type of geese they are... they
were going for 40 dollars a piece in the frozen poultry section of the
local grocert store during the holidays last year.. we got these birds
for breeding for 20 bucks a piece... turkeys for breeding go for 40 -50
bucks a piece in local papers
Met a man on side of the road broke down waiting for a friend to bring
help .. said he has friend nearby wants to give away some farm critters
he no longer needs..or wants to keep through the winter.. we'll see
what he has... he is gonna call in a little while from his friend's
place to let me know what he still wants to get rid of...we also just
helped the friend who is letting me use this puter to capture a wild
hive of bees who escaped from a local bee keepers bunch of boxes nearby
..seems an extra queen gets out every year and builds a new colony on
this man's out build
ing ,,( I buy hay from the place where we got these
bees from)..we took pics of the removal...easily done.. now we are here
and the man is boxing up the new bees in supers and dropping in all the
honeycomb and honey along with .. free goodies... this is something
that bwhm readers should look into..
next spring two of this guys bee colonies will be placed on our farm
cause we have more trees and bushes and alfalfa fields up near our
place so we figger to give them a higher yield during honey harvest
next year
Love to all... btw we had yellow jackets and hornets invade one of the
upstairs bedrooms this last two weeks so we had to lock the door during
day and spray in early morning and afternoon to kill off what was
coming through a rotten window sill.. good thing we didnt rent out that
room to someone.. will have to gut the upstairs next year i guess..
will have film of all the new critter transferred to cd and then take
to local library to send to you in email so you can share with the
folks sure miss talking to you guys at night..
