I'm running for the local school board and the election is today. I doubt I will win, but if I do, I'd like a good thought or two to make wise decisions and to be able to persuade others on important issues.
So, if you wouldn't mind, that'd be appreciated.
Thanks.

Ah...crap...sorry...
I lost. *shrug*
But, I had over a third of the vote without even trying. And I have had a number of people come up to me and say they voted for me and was sorry I lost....including the Driver's Ed teacher, which surprised the snot out of me. He said, "Our family voted for you..." and I said, "you're kidding!"
We had a tiff last year over my girls taking driver's ed from him. He's something of a horses behind and during the parents meeting laid down the law about kids not missing class and that they would fail if they missed more than one day, even for family deals ( classes were six days a week for month.) okay, whatever, we'll deal. It was a summer driving course, after school was out for the summer and was supposed to be for the month of June.
So, one morning a week after class starts, my kids come home only 45 minutes after the class started and then announced there was no class on that Saturday because he wanted it off. So, I stopped payment on my $300 check and told the girls they were done with the class. Well, Mr Driver's Ed man didn't like that and called me about it.
He said his mother was dying and that his health was poor and I wasn't being very sensitive to that. *Umkay....I'm supposed to pay $300, let him lay down the law and require us to do ABC AND be understanding when he, for whatever reason, won't live up to what he demands from us? Uh, sorry, but we don't have all summer to make up driver's ed and because he deviated from the original plan, it's just not going to work for us.
So, he said he was going to tell the principle to MAKE me pay the $300 while he gave my daughters F's for not completing the class.
Yeah, you do that, and we'll be in front of the school board, mister. Besides, you are taking this waaaaay too personally, it's just not going to work for us, simple. Nothing personal (really). Besides which I have my own health to think about ( I was preggo with Luci and having some difficulties stemming from her birth defect. I knew I needed my girls home to help me in July.) and blah blah blah.
And that was the end of it. I was not going to let him bully me or make me feel bad or even stroke his ego over his own health and his mother being on her death bed * * * * * (Which I said I could certainly appreciate and was sorry to hear, I'm not heartless.) I wasn't disrespectful, but I wasn't budging either.
So, when he said he voted for me, I was shocked. I thought he'd eat glass before that ever happened. Apparently, I won his respect, so that's something anyway.

$400,000 you forgot to add all the campaign contributions and the kickbacks.
Why else would someone spend millions to get a job that pays 400K? ;D ;D
