DD said she is going to buy a new laptop and give me this Toshiba but it has problems with the CD/DVD drive. From what I gathered this is standard with these computers. Since it's still under warranty I want her to take it in once she has her new one. Does anyone know if this is going to be a recurring problem or should it stay fixed once it is fixed?
I think she has also had trouble with the little slot where the card from the digital camera goes. Sometimes it's about impossible to get it back out. Anyone know anything about that?
If I get it I'll be keeping it as I can't afford to buy myself a computer and I believe in that old saying "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth".
Any and all advice will be appreciated.
She's also going to give me her Sony CyberShot digital camera.

More than likely if there were problems with that drive toshiba probably has heard about it & will install a different one. If not you will probably be fine with a new replacement. When you send it in to get the new drive see about having a new usb jack put in while they have it opened up. If they charge for that it shouldn't be too much.

Sounds like you are getting a pretty good deal anyway ya look at it :)

Sounds like a good deal. If I interpret your OP correctly you are talking about the SD Card or CompactFlash card reader that several Toshibas have built in. In my line of work I see plenty of those fail, mostly because of some faulty with the physical mechanism that locks the card in place and also ejects them. I recommend directly connecting the camera to the computer via USB and just leave the card in the camera OR purchase and external SD Card/Compact Flash card reader to your new laptop. These devices can be had at radio shack or best buy and run about 20 dollars. They fail less often in my experience.
