I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with any Satellite Internet companies.
My parents had an installer come out from Wild Blue.
Installer looked at my dad and said no, you won't get it here.
Dad asked why and he said there's too many trees, So Dad says point out which ones and I'll take care of that problem.
Installer says No, still won't work . Dad says why not, and guy says still too many trees, Dad says Which ones?
Installer says thanks for calling and gets in his van and leaves!!!
Anybody have any suggestions, I have checked out Hughes Net and they look promising. The trees are close to the house, but the shed office would have about 300yds to the closest trees, and they are down hill form the shed so i know we can hit the magic 20 degree mark.
Also can you run the satellite straight to a wireless router?

I've worked with it and the performance is less than desirable. If it is your only option, perhaps it is worth considering but I would take dial up over satellite at this point.

WildBlue works for us. There are three levels of service speeds with three pricings. (We have thoroughly rotten landlines here.)
Call WildBlue again and ask for a different installer to check the site. I'm betting it was not the trees but something else...

I've had Hughes Net/Dish Network for a few years now and I've had no problems with the large Cottonwood tree just at the edge of the cone of reception for the sat. dish that is attached high on the south side of my house. Only problems is with heavy rain and when snow accumulates on the dish and/or the face of the receiver. They also have a download limit. The limit depends on which service package you buy. The up end cost was around $700 and the monthly few of $70 is medium high for 250 MB limit a day, but it sure bets dialup!!

I used Wild Blue in central Michigan. I had the same banter with our technician. I ended up asking the technician to leave the installation to me. He did everything but aim the dish and trenching. You CAN trim and cut your way to a clear line of southern sight, but the company is getting picky about it because they only want to install and SUPPORT dishes in ideal conditions.
I would see if you can press the point to point the dish yourself.

I have WildBlue and I like it better then dial up.
Our house is in the woods but our installer found a spot near our roof peak where he could put it. It's been working good for about a year and a half, with no problems.
It does go out sometimes in stormy weather but I expected that since I have satellite television, but it sure beats the dial up service I was getting.
