In a catalog from my solar distributor (I am 100% off grid), they discuss converting a cordless phone/answering machine to DC from AC if the Power box (the plug) is labeled between 9V and 15V. Mine states the output is 9V. How do I connect that to DC? Do I cut the wires at the plug and just connect it to my fuse box? Of the two wires, one is solid and one has a white stripe the full length of the wire. How do I know which is the power and which is the neutral or ground? Any help would sure be appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul

Paul be careful, the labeling should say something like:

Input 115VAC
Output 9 VDC

Input is 110 volts AC and the output is 9 volts DC that's a big difference.

What's in side is most likely a small transformer and a rectifier. I don't think you would want to wire it directly to a fuse panel, but that depends what's inside the fuse panel. If your confused you might get an electrician to look it over for you. It's better to be safe then sorry.

Thank you for the reply. I guess I need to clarify......I am 100% off-grid. The fuse panel I was asking about is DC. I have a 12V system.

On the "transfomer", the input is 120V and the output is 9V. I know my distributor has said that you can connect them to a 12VDC system, but I am certain it would have to be without the "transformer"? or...I assumed it would be. But, either way, it isn't worth trying to get an electrician to work on it...I have found most of them to be clueless when discussing 12V DC home applications. LOL

Thank you again for your help.

Hi Paul.. and Welcome..

To convert that cordless phone, check out one of these..

A word of caution.. Sometimes you'll have a ground loop issue. You will know when you connect it up and the phone won't work.. :-/

If this happens, then you will need one of these..

12 VOLT WIRELESS PHONE ACCESSORIES

REGULAR CORDLESS & CORDLESS W/ DIGITAL ANSWERING MACHINE often have noise interference issues...

Thanks for your reply. As it is, Backwoods Solar is who I've always used. I was hoping to avoid having to spend the money for the DC Isolator.

Thanks for your input. It is appreciated.
