We are looking at new softwares for our ebooks. One is both PC and MAC. I know MAC can take a zip made on a PC, and unpack it, but can you unpack a self extracting '.exe' file knowing it to be an archive?

I don't know the answer to this question, but I would search for something on the "Stuff-It Expander" which is the Mac OSX equivalent of WinZIP. I bet if you looked through the documentation for this software you would find your answer.

Yes, the latest stuffit expander will do most .exe self extracting files. You can get it at:

Thank you folks.
Jaytee, I am informed that MAC can handle true '.zip' inside the operating system. But what I still do not know is will it create subdirectories under it? I am thinking I can brush off our old registered pkzip, create the zip, and let a MAC user grab and test. (No luck thus far with the .exe)
Gryphonsmoon,
If the above does not work, I will be asking to support to support stuffit with free download. I just tipped two MAC folks, with the link.
Thanks,
Sarah
